Multimodal transport requires careful attention every step of the way. To ensure that the transport process runs smoothly and that shipments reach their destinations on time, it is important for several departments to work together.
In September 2021, AsstrA Rail and Container Department teams completed a multimodal shipment for an industrial client. The cargo was packaged into drums stacked on pallets, with four drum to each pallet.
The cargo, metal balls used for grinding solid process fuels into powders deliverable via a nozzle, was initially loaded onto a ship in Bolivia and transported by sea to the Port of St. Petersburg. After unloading at the port, the balls were transported to the rear terminal at Shushary Railway Station. From there, it was transferred from sea containers to TransContainer rail containers and shipped on to Krasnoyarsk by rail. For the final leg of the journey, the containers were loaded onto trucks for delivery to the client's plant in Achinsk.

When transferring from a sealine container to a Russian railway container, it is important to make sure that the cargo is properly and securely fastened. The transshipment at Shushary was quite fast, which accelerated the delivery of the containers. The AsstrA Railway and Container Departments’ cooperation was remarkably smooth. Rail delivery took a week, and the entire shipment lasted 18 days," shares Gleb Goncharov, Trade Lane Manager in the CIS Rail Freight Division at AsstrA.
