Chemical industry products are among the most challenging and demanding to transport. Over 3 million tons of chemical products are transported in Europe annually. In only the first quarter of the year, almost 11% of all goods transported by AsstrA-Associated Traffic AG were chemicals. “The chemical materials most frequently transported by AsstrA Italia are fuels, alcohols, and materials used in industry and agriculture. The transport of such products involves significant responsibility, monitoring, safety measures, and compliance with multiple legal regulations, not just those applicable in the chemical industry. Also, vehicles, equipment, tanks, warehouses, and packaging must all be adapted to the specific type of chemical being transported. The cargo must be properly labeled and protected against chemical reactions,” says Alan Terzi, Forwarder in the AsstrA Italia Express Delivery Division.
Ensuring the safety of dangerous chemical industry goods requires the application of appropriate standards and procedures by producers, warehouse workers, senders, forwarders, and recipients. All parties must mutually follow hierarchical and harmonized regulations that define the conditions and requirements for the transport of dangerous goods.
“The transport of dangerous goods – including those used in the chemical industry – via road is regulated by multiple international agreements. These agreements are regularly updated to ensure safety and reduce risk. The fundamental regulatory agreement is the ADR Convention, which precisely describes the procedures and obligations related to conditions of transport, loading/unloading, technical requirements for vehicles, and crew member training. Our quality management system is certified according to ISO 9001:2015, and our environmental management system is certified according to ISO 14001: 2015. Our experienced staff optimize existing delivery schemes and develop customized logistics solutions tailored to each client’s needs and cargo characteristics,” adds Alan Terzi.
To properly ship chemicals in compliance with all regulations, all supply chain participants need to be aware of the relevant threats and risks as well as how to counteract them – during not only transport itself but also loading and unloading and even storage in the senders’ and recipients’ warehouses.

“SQAS certification confirms that a logistics company takes a socially responsible approach to the transport of chemicals or semi-finished products. SQAS is an assessment system that provides a detailed factual report of a company’s capabilities in this respect. To maintain SQAS certification, a company must undergo an assessment every three years. During our most recent assessment, we are very proud to have received an overall score of 82%,” says Luba Zakharava, AsstrA Italia Country and Branch Manager.
