Multimodal projects involve the transportation of goods by several modes of transport. Organization and coordination of the supply chain is a complex and multi-stage process. Increased attention is paid to the selected vehicles’ technical features as well loading/unloading times. These combined solutions reduce logistics costs for clients and make effective use of available vehicles.
In the case of container transportation, good preliminary preparation can typically take from 7 to 14 days as the team ensures supply chain continuity and selects the most appropriate vehicles. In practice, however, a good logistics provider can significantly reduce preparation and execution time for urgent deliveries.
In August of this year, a Chinese client contacted AsstrA with a request to transport industrial liquid temperature regulation equipment from Austria to China. The sender did not have the necessary equipment to load the goods into containers, so the client was urgently looking for an alternative delivery option. When organizing container railway transportation, the goods should be transferred to the sender 3-7 days before the train leaves.
Within 48 hours, it was possible to successfully organize an end-to-end logistics chain, with complete full-truck-load road transport through export. Full delivery took 2 weeks. The train departed from the Austrian city of Krems an der Donau and arrived in Suzhou, China, having covered 9,000 kilometers.

“It took literally a couple of days to organize transportation from Austria to China. None of the client’s other partners guaranteed such a quick delivery. Loading took place in Gmunden, Austria. Then the goods were delivered by road to a warehouse located 200 km from the city of Krems an der Donau. After transshipment of the goods from truck to container and preparation of the EX export declaration, the cargo was sent by rail to the final consignee in China,” summarizes Vladislav Martin, Trade Lane Manager of the China Rail Division at AsstrA.
