Autumn is off to an active start in Vilnius. On Sunday, September 8, the annual Vilnius Marathon was held. The first such run took place back in 1990. After several pauses and challenges, the Vilnius Marathon as we know it today made its debut in 2004 as an event for the city’s runners and residents.
In 2007, the Vilnius Marathon officially joined the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS). This international non-profit sports organization unites over 300 marathons and runs from 95 countries. The Vilnius Marathon is popular among Lithuanians and is supported by the city’s authorities.
AsstrA Trade Lane Manager Svetlana Strasevicius shares her impressions of the race:
“This was not the first time I participated in the Vilnius Marathon. This is the city’s annual race. There is always a great, festive atmosphere with plenty of fan support. It is inspiring to see everyone – including business customers and competitors – running along “shoulder to shoulder.”
This year I participated with my eldest daughter. For her, this was not just a start and a finish. It was also an experience planning and preparing to achieve a goal. And, of course, this was a sporty, healthy family activity. I really liked the motto of this run: "Life is not interesting unless there is something you can try to achieve."
