In November 2018, the corporate group transported 165 head of cattle from Ireland to Russia. The transportation route from Ireland via France, Germany, Poland, and Belarus to Russia took 7 days.
AsstrA experts fully managed the organization of all stages of transportation: route planning, transport selection and booking, ordering ferries, and arranging rest stops for the animals along the way.
The animals were transported in five special cattle-carriers along the entire route. From Ireland to France, the cargo was delivered by ferry, without overload.
One of the requirements of this transportation project was the need for scheduled stops. This was due to veterinary requirements for the transportation of live cargo as well as for the animals to get proper rest. For this purpose, AsstrA specialists of AsstrA pre-booked farms in Cherbourg in France, Poznan in Poland, and Smolensk in Russia.
"The most popular – and optimal – way to transport live cargo is via road," says Head of the Livestock Logistics Department at AsstrA Juliana Mosina. “Vehicles must be up to strict standards: the car must comply with sanitary and technical safety standards and be equipped with a ventilation system, drinking bowls, and GPS navigation. In addition, trailers must be cleaned and disinfected before each shipment.”
The AsstrA corporate group has been handling shipments of live animals for more than 10 years. AsstrA provides services related to the transportation of cattle, live pigs, sheep, and goats from Western Europe to the Russian Federation, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, and Ukraine. Company experts also organize the transportation of live cargo to more exotic countries like Morocco, Tunisia, Mongolia, Tajikistan, and Armenia.
In 2018, AsstrA generated 2.4% of total revenue on live cargo shipments. This year, the corporate group has executed more than 700 transportation projects, 400 of which involved routes to or from the Russian Federation. The total weight of all transported animals exceeded 13 thousand tons. The most popular routes by number of departures were Germany-Russia (297), Germany-Uzbekistan (75), and Denmark- Russia (47).
