New research forecasts that over the next 8 years, the value of the global connected logistics market will increase from $10.21B to $55.17B. Connected logistics incorporates real-time road and weather condition information that is highly important to pharmaceutical manufacturers aiming to protect a shipment’s chain of custody. Primarily for this reason, global pharmaceutical and transportation industry representatives gather at events like Temperature Controlled Logistics 2018.
From the 29th of January to the 1st of February, international logistics and transportation provider AsstrA-Associated Traffic AG joined 400 senior supply chain, logistics, and storage experts from the pharmaceutical industry at the 17th annual Temperature Controlled Logistics event in London, United Kingdom.
TCL 2018 drew ambitious industry representatives aiming to share their business insights on the global situation in the pharmaceutical business and potentially find likeminded Partners.
“Cool Chain Temperature Controlled Logistics is a significant pharmaceutical industry event designed to help spread logistics practices and knowledge among top global leaders. For example, top executives from companies like Teva, Baxter, MSD, Jannsen (Johnson & Johnson), Sanofi, GlaxoSmithKline, Novartis, Pfizer, Novo Nordinsk, and Vifor Pharma took to the stage to share their challenges, best practices and underline their needs. AsstrA managed to talk business with almost all of them in order to tailor solutions to their unique challenges,” says Katerina Lis, Head of AsstrA Pharma Logistics.
Katerina Lis goes on to note that manufacturers of pharmaceuticals and drugs are in need of full service packages provided by global logistics providers. These packages should go beyond cargo transportation services and include warehousing, storage, and passive and active cargo security elements – all supported by IT and data loggers.
“The needs these Pharma execs shared will guide AsstrA’s upcoming investments in technology. We plan to innovate in line with market demand and build trust with Partners who see that we are investing where it matters,” continues Ms. Lis.
This year, specially organized sessions at TCL were based on three central topics: pre-transportation (from supply chain planning and visibility to standardization and IT integration), transportation (from reducing temperature deviations to maintaining temperature control in challenging situations), last mile and post-distribution (end-to-end temperature monitoring and working with Partners in the last mile). During the event, 40 such sessions were held.
According to TCL 2018 participants, last week in London was full of real-life case studies, interactive working groups, and expert panel discussions that offered valuable insights into temperature controlled logistics challenges at each point in the pharmaceutical supply chain.
